What This All About?

Hey, my name is Pat Deedy and for the next few months I will be blogging about my time in Concord and on Semester at Sea. For those of you who don't know, Semester at Sea (S@S), is an abroad program that takes students around the world on a cruise ship (no not a carnival cruise ship, just a mid-size vessel). This summer I will be participating in the program and will be going to the Mediterranean!!! It's going to easily be one of the highlights of my life and I can't frickin' wait to get on that boat and start! Although I am stoked to go on this trip of a life time, I am worried about the toll it will take on my training. I'm a runner, have been since freshmen year of high school when I join the CCXC family (my high school cross country team). Currently I'm running for Marist College and am trying to make a come back from strokes of bad luck and injury. So while at sea I have two goals: 1) To explore all of what the Mediterranean as to offer and on the way learn more about the world and myself; 2) To train well and hard enough to run a fast time at the Marist 5k in September. This will be challenging, but I'll try my best to achieve both. Obviously the first goal is more important and will most defiantly have a great effect on my life, but running is a huge part of my life and for the past year I have struggled with it. I no longer want to sit on the sideline and watch my teammates kick ass in races, I want to be out their on the course running fast times and feeling the high after a great race. So, back to the question, "what's this all about?", it's the story of a man and an runner, one trying to see what the world has to offer, the other seeing what his body and talent can handle. It's going to be an interesting next couple of months...
